Pictty is a picture viewer for the Mac. This policy says, in plain words, what happens to your data. There is very little to say: we never receive it.
01What we collect
Nothing. There is no sign-up, no user account, and no server that receives your pictures, their metadata, your settings or a usage log.
02Your pictures
Pictty reads the pictures you open, and the other pictures in the same folder so it can show them in the filmstrip. It decodes and draws them on your Mac. Thumbnails and decoded pictures are kept in memory only while the app runs; nothing is copied, uploaded or written elsewhere. Pictty changes a file only when you ask: Move to Trash moves it to the Trash, and nothing else is ever modified.
03What stays on your Mac
Pictty keeps your preferences in macOS’s standard preferences for the app: the zoom mode, the background, the filmstrip, the comparison layout, the language, the window position and a short list of recent folders. macOS also adds the pictures you open to its own Recent Items list. Deleting the app and its preferences removes all of it. We cannot read any of it.
04Default viewer
If you choose Make Pictty the Default Viewer, Pictty asks macOS to open the picture types you picked with Pictty, and macOS asks you to confirm each one. This setting lives in macOS, and you can change it back at any time, in the same settings page or with Get Info › Open with in Finder.
05Network
Pictty makes no network connections. The Pictty Website and More Apps items in the Help menu and the link in About open this website in your browser, and only when you click them. As with any website, the server sees the internet address the request comes from; we do not use it to identify you.
06Third parties & tracking
There are no advertising networks and no analytics or tracking tools in the app. Your usage is not profiled, shared or sold. Camera RAW files are developed by Apple’s RAW engine, which is part of macOS and runs on your Mac. The website is hosted by an ordinary web host, whose server logs record requests to it, as for any website.
07Your control
Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to delete on request. To remove everything the app put on your Mac, delete the app and run defaults delete com.marcocebrian.pictty in Terminal.
