Easy on purpose

Serious notes apps often ask you to learn a markup language, pick plugins, and keep a folder of settings before a list looks like a list. Gloss Notes skips that. You write, and the page is the page.

  • What you see is the note

    Headings, lists, checklists and callouts appear as you type. There is no preview to switch to, and no symbols around the words.

  • Nothing to set up

    No plugins to install, no theme to assemble, no special folder to create. Open it. The first note is a note.

  • Pictures, video, links

    Drop a picture or a video in. Link out to the web, or to another note. The other note’s name stays right if you rename it.

  • A page becomes a note

    Share from anywhere on the Mac, or give Gloss Notes an address. The article comes in. The menus and the cookie banner stay out.

  • Apple Notes can come too

    Bring an existing library across. Folders come with the notes. You do not retype the archive.

  • Your place, and a nudge

    Come back and you are on the line you left. A reminder sits in the sentence it belongs to. It can repeat, and it can wait.

What that looks like

The same simple page also holds a table, a diagram, code and an equation, when the note needs them. You do not switch apps, and you do not turn a feature on.

How fast, once you are in

Measured on a Mac. The first drawing of the window is the system. After that, the notes themselves are quick.

Your notes. Your sync.

The library lives on the Mac. You are in control of it. If you want a copy elsewhere, turn on iCloud and it is stored encrypted on Apple’s servers, or point it at your own WebDAV server. Gloss Notes does not encrypt the WebDAV copy. WebDAV is also how an Android device can keep the same library. We do not run a notes server, and we do not ask you to make an account with us.

Export a note as HTML, Markdown (.md) or PDF whenever you want a file that is just yours.

Still being built

Gloss Notes is in development. Pieces move, and some of what you see here will get finer before it is offered as a finished app. There is no download button until that is true. It will most probably be a subscription.
