Cyh Cipher: Terms & Conditions

These terms apply the moment you download or use Cyh Cipher, so please read them carefully first, particularly section 03. If you don't agree with them, don't use the app.

01Licence & intellectual property

You get a personal, non-transferable licence to use Cyh Cipher on your own Apple devices. You may not copy or modify the app, extract or reverse-engineer its source code, translate it, or create derivative versions. The app and all related trademarks, copyright, database rights and other intellectual property remain the property of Marco Cebrián Muiño.

02Changes & pricing

Marco Cebrián Muiño is committed to keeping the app useful and efficient, and reserves the right to change it, or to charge for its services, at any time. We will never charge you for the app or a service without making very clear exactly what you're paying for.

There is no password recovery. Cyh Cipher cannot recover a forgotten password, decrypt a file without the correct password, or repair a file whose password you no longer remember. There are no exceptions. There is no recovery key, no backdoor, and no support process that can help. This is a deliberate consequence of how strong encryption works, not an oversight, and it is your responsibility to remember your passwords and keep independent backups of anything important that you encrypt.

03No recovery, no warranty on lost access

By using Cyh Cipher you accept that a forgotten password results in permanently inaccessible data, and that Marco Cebrián Muiño bears no liability for any loss, financial, professional or otherwise, arising from a forgotten password, a corrupted file, or any other loss of access to encrypted data. The app also cannot distinguish a wrong password from a damaged file; both produce the same "wrong password, or this file is damaged" result, by design.

04Your device & storage

You're responsible for keeping your device working, charged, and with enough free disk space to complete an encryption or decryption operation. If your device runs out of battery, storage, or fails mid-operation and you can't use the app or lose data as a result, Marco Cebrián Muiño can't accept responsibility.

05Accuracy & liability

We work to keep the app correct and secure, but Marco Cebrián Muiño accepts no liability for any direct or indirect loss you experience as a result of relying wholly on the app's functionality, including but not limited to the encryption and decryption of files.

06Updates & termination

The app is currently available on macOS. System requirements may change, and you'll need to install updates to keep using it. You agree to accept updates when they're offered. The file format is designed so that older files remain readable by newer versions. We may also stop providing the app and end your right to use it at any time without notice. On termination, the rights granted to you here end and you must stop using and, if asked, delete the app. That does not affect your ability to decrypt files you already hold, using a version of the app you retain.

07Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated from time to time, so please check this page periodically. Any changes are effective as soon as they're posted here.
